After arguably the best weekend for football here are the winners and losers of week 3. The winners include Stefon Diggs, Blake Bortles, Jordan Howard, Todd Gurley, and Sammy Watkins. The losers include Joe Flacco, Cam Newton, Kyle Rudolph and Phillip Rivers.
Todd Gurley and Sammy Watkins faced off against the San Francisco 49ers Thursday night. The Rams would go on to win 41-39 beyond strong performances from both Gurley and Watkins. Todd Gurley carried the ball 25 times for 113 yards as well as 2 touchdowns, Sammy Watkins would go to have 6 receptions for 106 yards with 2 touchdowns. It took Gurley nearly two seasons before rushing for over 100 yards again in a game. Watkins hadn’t caught for more then 100 yards in nearly two years as he was previously traded to the Rams after spending 3 years with the Buffalo Bills. The Rams would go on to play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Blake Bortles and the Jaguars defeated the Baltimore Ravens 44-7 in the first game across seas in London for the season. Bortles went 20-33 for 244 yards with 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Bortles also ran the ball 3 times for 18 yards. The Jaguars are set to face the Jets on Sunday. Stefon Diggs and the Vikings defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-17. Diggs caught the ball 8 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Averaging 21.6 yards per catch and his first touchdown went for 17 yards and his second touchdown went for 59 yards. Stefon Diggs and the Vikings take on Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
The Chicago Bears defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-17 after heading into overtime. Chicago was lead behind running back Jordan Howard who had 23 carries for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns. Howard also caught the game winning pass in overtime for 19 yards. Howard and the Bears take on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.
Joe Flacco played against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday and lost 44-7 in London. Flacco looked rough the entire game as he threw 2 interceptions and got sacked twice. Flacco went 8-18 for 26 yards and would be replaced by Ryan Mallett in the fourth quarter. Flacco will look to bounce back as the Ravens take on the Steelers on Sunday. Cam Newton and the Panthers took on the New Orleans Saints and lost 34-13. Newton would go on to complete 17-26 passes for 167 yards and 3 interceptions. Newton would also be sacked 4 times for 28 yards. Yet the only touchdown the team scored came from Newton on a 3-yard rush. The Panthers would go on to face the Patriots on Sunday.
Kyle Rudolph and the Vikings took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won 34-17. Tight end Kyle Rudolph would go on for one catch for 4 yards. Keenum threw the ball to wideouts 23-33 times on Sunday causing Rudolph to have a rather quite outing. The Vikings will go on to Play the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Los Angeles Chargers went on to face divisional rival the Kansas City Chiefs and lost 24-10. Phillip Rivers went 20-40 for 237 yards but threw 3 interceptions. Marcus Peters returned one for 38 yards while Terrance Mitchell caught two interceptions for 0 yards. Los Angeles will go on to face Carson Wentz and the Eagles on Sunday.
